KATIVASTHI

Service Description

Kativasthi is a specialized Ayurvedic procedure where the healing power of medicated oil is concentrated on the lower back. By maintaining a pool of warm, herb-infused oil over the lumbar-sacral region, this treatment allows the medicinal properties to penetrate deep into the spinal vertebrae, discs, and surrounding soft tissues, offering relief where manual massage cannot reach. The Specialized Process The treatment is a meditative and warming experience that focuses on the "seat" of the spine. The Reservoir: You will lie comfortably on your stomach. A circular boundary or "dam" is constructed on your lower back using a firm dough made from black gram flour. This creates a secure, leak-proof reservoir. The Warm Immersion: Specially prepared, lukewarm medicated oil is gently poured into this reservoir. The Soaking: The oil is kept in place for 45 minutes to 1 hour. As the oil cools, the therapist replaces it with warm oil to maintain a consistent, therapeutic temperature. This sustained heat increases blood flow and allows the herbal extracts to lubricate the spinal joints. The Finish: The treatment often concludes with a light massage of the area to further stimulate circulation and ensure the oil is fully absorbed. Clinical Benefits Kativasthi is the gold standard for addressing the "wear and tear" of the modern lifestyle on the spine. Back Pain Relief: Highly effective for any type of back pain, including acute muscle spasms and chronic lower back ache. Spinal Disorder Support: Specifically recommended for spinal disorders such as Sciatica, Lumbar Spondylosis, Intervertebral Disc Prolapse (Slipped Disc), and Degenerative Disc Disease. Nerve Nutrition: The warm oil helps nourish and strengthen the nerve endings in the lumbar region, reducing numbness and radiating pain in the legs. Flexibility: By lubricating the connective tissues, it relieves stiffness and restores a natural range of motion to the lower torso.
